Inner City Kitchen classes are held for youth ranging from ages 10-18 years of age, classes being held 1 day a week during the course of 6 weeks or 8 weeks depending on fall or spring school session for 1 ½ hours. Chef Crystal will create a weekly lesson providing a demonstration, hands on cooking lab, product knowledge that includes nutrition facts and history of the items being created each week. The first week of class each student will document in a journal their daily food intake giving our staff an idea of each individual student’s needs. During the course of 6 weeks the students and Chef Crystal will revert back to the journal for weekly progress and the development of better daily eating habits. Inner City Kitchen has asked several local purveyors such as U.S. Foods and World Wide Produce to allow the students to come in for field trips and or have guest speakers come and offer knowledge of their vendor products provided across the nation. Towards the end of the course the students will be placed into groups and requested to create a menu that can be made in their homes. Each group will be required to make one item, be it appetizer, entrée, or dessert for the facility staff. The students will also have a parent/guardian night where they will cook with and enjoy a culinary creation together.
