Over at the Hollywood YMCA, Thursdays are full of laughter, girl talk, and everything you would imagine cooking with your friends would be like.  Elizabeth Olguin, the director of The Young Women’s Outreach Group at the Hollywood YMCA has created a college like dorm living environment for young women who just need help getting off their feet and amazing single living apartment for young mothers who are in search of a little guidance before stepping out on their own again.  All we can say is Wow!! It is an honor and a privilege to know and share our culinary world with such an Amazing group of young women. To the marvelous young women who allow us to come to their home every week and create healthy nutritious meals with them we thank you.

During this 8 week course the young women are learning to expand their cooking knowledge and create an environment for themselves and their children that most American families are lacking, family meals.  A two-year health survey being released today showed parents and children who started a healthy food program lost more weight than those who focused solely on exercise”. While in the class the young women learn to grocery shop and also cost effective ways to cook for themselves or their families. For Inner City Kitchen it starts with the food but ends with the family and because in the end that’s what it’s all about.
